SUMMARY
Viro were initially engaged by HNW architects to undertake an early stage BREEAM review with the aim of satisfying a planning obligation to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating with a score of 62%. It was subsequently decided by the client to aim for a BREEAM Excellent rating instead.
The building benefitted from a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) frame helping to sequester carbon and ensure an overall low embodied carbon for the scheme.
Operational carbon was reduced by 35% against the Part L requirements, this has been provided through both passive measures and efficient services helping to reduce running costs for the local authority.
Working alongside Wilmott Dixon, Viro ensured the final scheme encompassed all required BREEAM elements and was rewarded with a final BREEAM Excellent certificate in March 2023.
