BREEAM Assessment & Certification
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is a globally recognised sustainability certification system for buildings, designed to evaluate and improve their environmental performance. It assesses various aspects of a building’s design, construction, and operation, including energy efficiency, water usage, materials, waste management, and indoor environmental quality.
By awarding BREEAM certification, buildings are recognised for their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, contributing to reduced operational costs, improved occupant wellbeing, and a lower environmental impact. BREEAM certification is awarded at different stages of a building's lifecycle—whether in the design, construction, or operational phase—ensuring that sustainability is embedded throughout the building’s lifespan.
Viro offers expert BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP) support, providing strategic sustainability advice from project inception to completion. Our BREEAM APs help maximise credits, streamline the certification process, and ensure sustainability is integrated efficiently into the design and construction phases. Viro can offer this service on projects where we are the appointed assessor as well as those where we are not.
Viro's BREEAM Services
BREEAM New Construction
This method assess the environmental, social, and economic sustainability of new building developments, evaluating both design and management practices during the design phase and after construction. This certification ensures that your building meets rigorous sustainability criteria, benefiting not just the environment but also the people who use the building. Key categories include Management, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use and Ecology, Pollution, and Innovation.
BREEAM Non-Domestic Refurbishment and Fit-Out (RFO)
The BREEAM Non-Domestic Refurbishment and Fit-Out (RFO) scheme evaluates the sustainability of non-residential building refurbishments and fit-outs. Whether upgrading or modifying an existing building, this scheme focuses on enhancing energy efficiency, improving occupant well-being, and reducing environmental impacts. From minor updates to significant structural transformations, BREEAM RFO ensures that your refurbishment project meets the highest sustainability standards, creating spaces that are energy-efficient, eco-friendly, and comfortable for occupants.
BREEAM In-Use
BREEAM In-Use (BIU) is designed to help owners, managers, and tenants of existing buildings enhance sustainability performance, reduce operational costs, and increase asset value. Unlike BREEAM New Construction or RFO, which focus on new builds and refurbishments, BREEAM In-Use emphasizes the operational performance of buildings, making it the ideal tool for improving sustainability in ongoing operations. Whether optimising energy efficiency or enhancing occupant satisfaction, BREEAM In-Use helps you manage and improve the sustainability of your asset over time.
